“I have the privilege of living in a world with new technology, engaging with proven feasibility in real time,” says Sergy Stepura, technical manager in the precision-guided munitions administration unit of the Land and IMI division. Sergy’s role focuses on leading development processes in the realm of precision-guided munitions and harnessing various entities within Elbit for these projects. Among other things, the team he leads is developing new algorithms and incorporating them in the software, setting up software requirements and implementing the solutions in the munitions.
My story
After pre-military higher education and working as a “product owner” in the Aerospace division, Sergy transferred to Land and IMI division to lead cutting-edge projects in precision-guided munitions. “Not long ago, we had a special moment – launching a system we developed,” he says. “All the components worked properly, in real-time conditions – it was an exciting, life-changing event.
“The success of doing something that has never been done before in Elbit, maybe even the world, is tremendous,” he adds. “When I began working on the project, I had the good fortune of working with incredible people, who also love what they do and take on challenges head on. We work together to come up with solutions – feeling the faith of our management, the engineers and our colleagues is incredible, and it helps create a successful experiment.”
Sergy moved to Israel from the Ukraine at the age of 13, and studied at the Pardes Hanna Agricultural High School. After graduating, he went to study at the Technion University. “That’s where I met my wife,” he says with a smile. “She also works in the defense industry, and we are raising two girls.”
In addition to work, Sergy’s thirst for a challenge remains unquenched. “I love bike riding. In the winter, I go skiing and at some point, I want to get into water sports,” he says. “In my remaining free time, I enjoy reading, studying and experimenting with algorithms – I’m still charmed by math.”
