People in his life describe Nir as pleasant, full of positive energies and a born leader; a person who takes on a great deal of responsibility. In his role as head of the infrastructure team, Nir is creating a system-wide basis for a range of products to serve the different defense divisions. “There may be more attractive jobs but when you’re part of a project where the chief of staff himself says, ‘Well done,’ it’s another experience entirely,” he says.
My story
Nir began his career at Elbit about eight years ago, as a developer in a designated systems team, which was awarded Israel’s prize for security. After that, he moved to infrastructure, first working with a customer’s team in development and transport and a year ago was promoted to team leader.
“Our goal was to create an infrastructure that provides a basis for tons of products sold in Israel and abroad,” Nir says. “It’s fascinating, because you interface with a variety of projects, but it’s also a lot of responsibility – there’s a difference between making something work well and producing a product that is a basis for change, in keeping with individual customer needs.”
Despite his young age, Nir is an experienced team leader and has already trained the next generation of leaders. “The most gratifying part is when somebody you nurture grows,” he says. “I recommended my deputy as my replacement in managing the customer team. Now I watch the things he does and it fills me with pride.”
Nir grew up in Givat Shmuel, the middle child of three boys. “My mother was a doctor of biology and did amazing things in her work, like producing oil from algae.” In the army, he served in the paratroopers, then went on to BA studies in computer sciences. He joined Elbit during his third year as a student. “During my first project, there was a need to develop something for an existing product. On the first day we developed. On the second, it became operational, and on the fourth day, the press was reporting on it. That’s crazy feedback, to see the results materialize in a day and know that you saved lives.”
